HQ: What’s your go-to weekend getaway from your city? How do you usually spend your time there?
Definitely Bangkok! The food! The cafe culture! The vibrant night life – I could go and on. I also want to check out Kuala Lumpur as I heard it’s really spruced up now.
But having said that, I enjoy my staycations A LOT. You almost get the full holiday experience without having to deal with flights, clearing immigration and too much packing haha.
HQ: What would an ideal staycation in your city entail?
I like checking into a hotel on the outskirts of town, but still within the city cause I love Singapore’s skyline so waking up to it is one of the best feelings ever.
My usual staycation experience after checking-in will be to first enjoy the hotel and its amenities (usually the pool and club lounge – a little tip, always opt for the club rooms if possible!) before going for dinner, preferably at a new restaurant or exploring a new cuisine, then going for more drinks at the hotel bar before calling it at night.
In the morning before checking out, I like to squeeze in time for a morning swim and breakfast – hotel breakfasts are the BEST!
What was your most memorable hotel experience of this year so far?
The stay at Adonis Hotel (in collaboration with HotelQuickly!) I blogged about it here but I really like the hotel experience in an refurbished shophouse, the outdoor bath (and the view that comes with it!) and the quaint neighbourhood it’s situated in. I will definitely be back soon!
HQ: For travelers who’ve never been, please pitch your city and tell them why they should visit in just a few sentences?
Keong Saik Road! This neighbourhood is full of charm and character with numerous eateries and watering holes. My favourites are Neon Pigeon and the surreptitious The Library which is a password-only bar. The cocktails here are amazing!
HQ: Which is your favorite picture from your Instagram feed, and why do you like it? What’s the story behind that shot?
This picture is pretty much the wise old adage for me – that a photo speaks a thousand words. It was my first Loy Krathong celebration in Thailand (and not my last!) and I still remember how overwhelming it felt for me that night.
HQ: What’s the most amazing rooftop bar you’ve discovered on your travels?
Definitely Sirocco at Lebua Bangkok. It’s been five years since I’ve discovered it and I have never found a better rooftop bar to date. Fun fact! The Hangover 2 movie was filmed here!
HQ: What new travel tools, apps, groups, hacks or tips have you adopted recently?
I love HotelQuickly for last minute staycations (it’s so easy to do so on the phone once you have an account), TripCase to manage my flights and itineraries. Other than that… I try to wing it as much as possible. 😉
